Creativity is another sorely misunderstood and undervalued aspect of our Christian faith. The Lord said in Isaiah 45:11-12 “I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens.” You can feel God’s creativity in this verse as He described how He created the heavens with His own hands. The universe was His canvas, and the love of His creation was His passion, as He creatively designed this world.
Watch FILM! Or maybe this version will be better?
Check out this bible verse: In Ephesians 2:9-10, The Apostle Paul said this, “For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” What a statement! Paul called us God’s masterpiece, His greatest work of art ever created. You can almost feel from these scriptures the imagination and inspiration that God put into creating His prized creation man. When we admire the work of an incredible sculptor or painter, we see the inspiration of our Creator in these works. That is why great works of artwork can sell for millions of dollars, because they are regarded as masterpieces formed from the imagination of a Picaso, or Michangelo.
All this creativity was imbedded in us from our Heavenly Creator, The Lord of all Creation, the one who the bible says placed the stars in the sky. David marveled in the Psalms about God’s power by saying, “When I look at the sky, which you have made, at the moon and the stars, which you set in their place.” David marveled at God’s creative power that was in place all around him. He praised God for His creativity and majesty. It was another powerful aspect of His glory. It is a shame that we sometimes don’t see the importance of using our God given creativity to glorify Him.
I believe that we need to encourage Godly creativity, and artistic expression as a form of worship and ministry. For too long, we as believers have shunned artistic ministries in our misted because we did not understand them, or were afraid of them. In order to see many aspects of our society transformed by God’s love, we are going to have to use all the gifts that He has put inside of us. The time has come for all of us to dream big, imagine, creatively write, paint, act, sculpt, and do whatever else creative that God has put into our hearts. If we do this we will see so many new “Picassos” arise, to glorify God with their art.
